Consumers advised on how to get cheaper life insurance
Despite life insurance policies being more affordable now thanks to recent price falls, consumers can still get even cheaper cover by following a few suggestions put forward by an expert.
One of the ways to make savings is by switching existing policies, according to Jane Baker, who has written on lovemoney.com that consumers could end up with cheaper premiums because of the low prices.
However, she advised against cancelling existing policies before securing a new one to prevent there being a gap in cover.
According to Ms Baker, the only way of guaranteeing good value for money is by comparing quotes from different providers to find the product that ticks all the boxes.
The information that consumers need to be armed with when shopping around includes what type of policy they want, such as level term assurance, the amount of protection they need, the length of the policy and premium payment preferences.
According to the author, while life insurance is vital, it is not the ideal protection for single people or those without dependants. Such individuals are better off obtaining critical illness or income protection cover.
Lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking can also result in significantly lower life insurance premiums.
