Change in circumstances calls for change in life insurance

Cheap life insurance available thanks to lower premiums - News 2009

Life insurance premiums have been falling in recent years, according to one protection industry insider, who has claimed that prices are now at their lowest level in seven years.

According to Neil Faulkner, writing in lovemoney.com, prices have been falling over the last couple of years and at one point "insurers were paying out more in claims than they received in premiums".

However, he warned that prices will not remain low forever saying that now is the time people should make a move if they are in need of reducing the cost of long-term protection by reviewing or getting a new deal.

Mr Faulkner stated that "competition in the cheap insurance market is intense, but insurance goes through cycles where competition heats up and forces prices ever lower" but this will inevitably rise as the market bottoms out.

"We must be at or near such a turning point in the insurance cycle," stated Mr Faulkner, who added that there is some evidence that some are already hiking their prices.

Research from Scottish Widows recently revealed that 62 per cent of British people are leaving themselves at risk because they do not have any long term protection and nearly half (45 per cent) are counting on their savings.
