'Simple plan' can save dependants from funeral preparation burden

People who want to avoid the prospect of their families being hit by expensive bills through life celebrations or funeral preparations after they pass away have been advised to consider life insurance.

The recommendation has been made by Duncan Caesar-Gordon of the Post Office amid research from the organisation showing that seven in ten (70 per cent) people aged above 50 do not have any provisions whatsoever.

Concurrently, the fear that it would be difficult or impossible to pay for a proper send-off is a worry for more than six million people (13 per cent), the research found.

"The reality is that funerals are one of those things that nobody wants to prepare for and as a result put little or no financial provision aside for it," said Mr Caesar-Gordon.

This means that should the worst happen, family and friends would be the ones left to pay the bill, and the current average funeral costs over £2,200.

However, consumers can avoid putting this burden on their kin with a simple plan which, apart from making it easy for all, ensures you end up with the funeral of your choice, stated Mr Caesar-Gordon.
